2008-05-05Mayor Jaraula Welcomes Wisconsin Rotarians
by Sandra B. Tadeo/ City Information Office City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula today welcomed a group of guests from Wisconsin, USA who visited Cagayan de Oro on a study exchange program.
During the flag raising ceremony at the City Hall this morning, Mayor Jaraula presented the Team Philippines from Wisconsin led by its team leader, Dr. Sharon Holmes to the city government employees. The visit of the Wisconsin guests is part of the Group Study Exchange 2008 of the Rotary International District 6270 Wisconsin to District 3860 Philippines. With Dr. Holmes in the Philippine visit are Jana Schmelling, art director of The Bartolotta Restaurants; Michael Bradburn, commercial banker of PyraMax Bank; Kristin Godfrey, marketing director of Milwaukee Shakespeare; and Mechelle King, online banking product specialist. Mayor Jaraula said that the visit of the Rotary Club from Wisconsin will boost the flourishing relationship between Cagayan de Oro and the US. Along this note, Mayor Jaraula told the visiting American Rotarians to relay to the US senators his personal gratitude for the passage of the Veterans Benefits Enhancement Act of 2007 which will provide pension to Filipino veterans of World War II who are living in the US and in the country. Some 240,000 veteran pensioners of which 60,000 are surviving veterans are expected to benefit from the said law once its counterpart bill in the House of Representatives is also approved. Mayor Jaraula said that the passage of the bill will spell a great difference in the lives of the Filipino war veterans and their survivors who will stand to benefit from an old-age pension of P5,000 per month, disability pay of P1,700 a month and hospitalization benefits of P400 a day.
