RTA, COCPO Set For Opening Of Classes

BOTH the Roads and Traffic Administration and the Cagayan de Oro Police Command are ready with their traffic and security plans come the opening of classes next month.

At the meeting of the City Council committee on police presided over by Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya, RTA overseer Filipino Amoguis said Oplan Balik Eskwela will be in effect starting June 9 in anticipation of the expected heavy flow of traffic in the city’s streets."We are set for it," he stressed.Amoguis said street stewards will conduct traffic direction, control and enforcement in cooperation with other government agencies and volunteers.Anticipates heavy volume of traffic especially near schools and universities such as West Central School, Cagayan University, Liceo de Cagayan University, Cagayan de Oro College, Kong Hua, City Central School, Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, City High School, Oro Christian Grace School, Corpus Christi School, controllers will be fielded in concerned school premises, he said.Amoguis added volunteer groups will also be deployed to augment their personnel.Enforcers will also be fielded in designated discipline zones and controllers in major streets and thoroughfares, he said.Amoguis informed the committee that the RTA will coordinate with the Land Transportation Office, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, the Traffic Management Group and barangay police, among others.Amoguis said the objective of Oplan Balik Eskwela is to maintain smooth traffic flow, prevent accident, and provide safety to motorists and students during the opening of classes.Noting that the concreting project at Velez street will not be complete by the opening of classes, the committee asked RTA to implement measures for smooth traffic flow.SECURITYMeanwhile, Acting Police Director P/Supt. Isagani Genabe assured the committee that a security plan is already in place in preparation for this.He, however, said the security plan cannot be divulged to the public but will be submitted to the members of the committee.He assured police visibility in schools and universities as part of the plan.The COCPO will also be coordinating with the RTA, he added.
