COUNCILOR Enrico Salcedo refuted on Monday afternoon (Feb. 23) a statement circulating in social media that claimed that non-residents of Cagayan de Oro City would be barred ftom entering the city with their vehicles.
Salcedo, who chairs the 21st City Council’s Committee on Public Utilities (Roads, Traffic Management, and Energy), refuted the false statement in his special report on Monday afternoon's session.
Salcedo said the false statement was posted by a troll Facebook page dubbed 'Barangay Outpost.'
Salcedo also clarified a statement from his recent interview that he said had been misinterpreted online.
He said he didn't tell anyone to commit suicide by 'jumping off a bridge.'
Rather, Salcedo explained that he used the Visayan word 'ambak' or 'jump off' to mean that as a way to refresh one’s mind, not as a reference to self-harm.
The councilor urged the public to practice due diligence by researching, fact-checking, and verifying information before believing or sharing posts on social media, where both accurate and false information can easily spread. (MDS/CIO/Photos by: Jomar Figuracion/CIO)
