Uy eyes viability of ‘food for garbage’ program
A ‘food for garbage’ exchange program aimed at reducing the volume of Cagayan de Oro City’s solid wastes was proposed by incoming Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy in his speech during his inauguration along with his administration allies in the City Council held last Sunday at the City Ampitheater.
‘Paningkamutan nako, mangayo sad ko og tabang sa konseho kon epektibo nga ang katawhan magdala sa ilang basura akong bayluhan og bugas og sardinas…labaw sa tanan atong gilantaw ang kalimpyo sa atong dakbayan (I will work on it, I will ask help from the City Council if it would be effective for the people to bring their garbage and I will exchange it for rice and sardines…most importantly, I want to see a clean city),’ Mayor Uy said in his inauguration speech.
Mayor Uy, who formally assumes office at noon of June 30, said he also wants to find other ways to motivate Kagay-anons into supporting the city’s solid waste management program. Uy also called on City Hall’s departments in charge of the city’s waste management program to intensify their garbage collection efforts.
‘Ipalihog nato ang atong gisaligan aron mapadayon ang pagpalimpyo ang palibot sa dakbayan (I call on our trusted personnel to continue and sustain our efforts in cleaning the city’s surroundings),’ Mayor Uy said.
