115 COUPLES IN GUSA TIED THE KNOT IN MAYOR KLAREX’S FREE WEDDING

The City Government of Cagayan de Oro has legalized the union of 115 couples during the mass wedding, dubbed "Kasalan ng Bayan," held last Saturday, December 10, 2022, in Barangay Gusa.

Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy officiated the wedding of the couples who exchanged their "I do's" during the ‘Kasalan ng Bayan’, one of the highlight services offered under the "Klarex nga Serbisyo sa Baryo" program of the City Government that aims to give opportunity to couples who have no financial means to get married.

"Ang kaminyoon usa ka pundasyon para sa atong katilingban. Kun dili maayo'ng pundasyon ang usa ka pamilya, dili mauswagon, malinawon ang atong katilingban," Mayor Klarex Uy said.

Leonar Zafra, who tied the knot with Maricel Calma, his partner of 19 years, thanked the City Government for the chance to finally legalize their union. "Daghang salamat kay Kapitan Marlo Lumbay Tabac ug labaw sa tanan kang Mayor Klarex Uy nga naa ning programa nga Kasalan sa Bayan. Daghan gyud ang nakabenefit sa kasal kay kung wala, di pa siguro [mi mapakasal] kay wala may budget," the couple said.

Another couple, Mark Anthony Bacarrisas and his 5 months pregnant wife Thezza Ybañez, his partner for 11 years, echoed this sentiment as they also expressed their gratitude to the city mayor.
"Sa amo na side isip nga nabutang nga Indigenous People, dako kaayo ning pasamalat ug pabor sa akoa," Bacarrisas said.

After the mass wedding, each couple received a wedding cake, a whole lechon, and wine from the City Government, as well as grocery packs from City Councilor Roger Abaday and five kilos of rice from SK Federation President John Michael Seno.

City Councilors Girlie Balaba, Atty. Ed Cabanlas, Dra. Malou Gaane, Jay Roa-Pascual, Suzette Magtajas-Daba, Roger Abaday, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President John Michael Seno and Liga ng mga Barangay President Alam Lim became the principal sponsors during the mass wedding.

The said event was also attended by City Administrator Atty. Roy Hilario Raagas, Gusa Barangay Council headed by Punong Barangay Marlo Tabac and the organizing staff from the City Civil Registry, City Mayor's Office, Community Improvement Division, City Information Office and City Public Services Department.
