CdeO City Hall, Filipino-Chinese community launch Chinese New Year activity lineup

CAGAYAN de Oro City Hall’s Oro Trade and Investment Promotions Center (Oro-TIPC) in cooperation with the Filipino-Chinese Community unveiled to the public the official calendar of activities for the 2025 Chinese New Year celebration during Thursday afternoon’s (Jan. 23) press briefing held at the City Information Office.
 
Oro-TIPC Department Manager John W. Asuncion and Cagayan de Oro Filipino-Chinese Community Chairman Benjamin Chan Jr said this year’s celebration will feature new activities like the Wok of Fortune: Culinary Exhibit on February 2 at Limketkai Mall and a Medical and Dental Mission on February 4 at Limketkai Atrium.
 
‘This year’s Chinese New Year celebration is particularly special as it coincides with the 50th year of friendship between China and the Philippines,’ Asuncion said.
 
Kicking off the Chinese New Year celebration will be the ceremonial lighting on Monday, January 27, at 6 PM. A pyro-musical fireworks display will be held on Jan. 28, 5 p.m. at Rio de Oro Boulevard. The New Year’s Eve Tradition and Ceremony will take place later that day at 11:00 p.m.
 
Free tikoy will be distributed to visitors of the Bell Church at 10 am on Chinese New Year, Jan. 29. Dragon boat competitions featuring participants from various parts of the country will also be held on February 1-2 at Isla de Oro.
 
Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy had reiterated that his administration in City Hall is a steadfast supporter of Cagayan de Oro City’s Filipino-Chinese community. (NLB/CIO)
