In officially opening the 2025 Chinese New Year Festival at the Rio de Oro Boulevard on Tuesday (Jan. 28) evening, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy voiced gratitude to those who showed up to support this major event for the Filipino-Chinese community.
“By being here, we acknowledge that we need each other and support one another. As we look forward to the Year of the Wooden Snake, let us embrace what it symbolizes: wisdom, intuition, and transformation,” Mayor Klarex said in Visayan.
The program showcased cultural performances from Kong Hua School, Oro Christian Grace School, and the Wushu Federation Philippines–Cagayan de Oro Chapter and concluded with a pyro-musical fireworks display.
This year’s opening ceremony is an initiative of the Chinese New Year Working Committee, composed of City Hall departments and national government agencies. (NLB/CIO/photos courtesy of CMO)
