After being comatose for 15 days following a severe accident in El Salvador City, Bernard F. Butcon was revived only to be told by doctors that he had a brain injury—-and he had only four months to live at most.
Five years later and despite suffering from a psychosocial disability caused by the brain injury, Butcon was hired on the spot during the recent Persons With Disability (PWD) Job Fair held in celebration of the 47th National Disability Rights Week.
Butcon joined the job fair organized by the Job Placement Bureau - Public Employment Service Office (JPB-PESO), in partnership with the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO), the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Department - PWD Section, and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region X.
Butcon is only one of many who have benefitted from Cagayan de Oro City Hall’s commitment to inclusive employment under the administration of Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy. (NLB/CIO/photo by Kim Zaldivar/CIO)
