TO ensure public safety during the upcoming holiday season, Councilor Christopher George Q. Goking pushed for a crackdown on the sale and use of substandard Christmas lighting decorations and illegal pyrotechnics/firecrackers in Cagayan de Oro City.
In his special report during Monday afternoon’s (Sept. 9) regular afternoon session of the 21st City Council, Councilor Goking called for a joint hearing on these concerns by the committee on trade and commerce which he chairs and the consumer protection committee chaired by Councilor Maximo T. Rodriguez III.
Goking cited that the legal basis on monitoring and cracking down on the sale and use of substandard Christmas lighting and illegal firecrackers are Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines and Republic Act 7183 or the Firecrackers Law.
The joint committee hearing will also review City Executive Order No. 511-2024 issued by Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the City Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the CDO Price Coordinating Council.
