COUNCIL URGED TO ACT ON SOLO PARENTS SUBSIDY LAW, PWD PENSION

Written by SC
AMENDMENTS to the existing ordinances on the solo parent subsidy and persons with disabilities (PWD) pension were sought by Councilor Maximo Rodriguez III during Monday’s (Sept. 29) regular session of the 21st City Council.

In his special report, Councilor Rodriguez also called for a re-convening of the technical working committee in charge of drafting the implementing rules and regulations (IRRs) of the two ordinances on solo parent subsidy and PWD pension that took effect in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Rodriguez said the amendments on the solo parent subsidy ordinance were needed in light of the passage of Republic Act 11861 or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act which included coverage of grandparents acting as guardians for children, pregnant solo parents, solo fathers and those whose spouses were detained or had abandoned them for the past three months.

Rodriguez said under the city’s 2024 and 2025 budgets about 1,000 identified indigent beneficiaries are supposed to receive P1,000 subsidy from the city every month. For indigent PWDs, Rodriguez said about 1,889 identified beneficiaries were supposed to receive P500 a month.

The council later referred the matter to the committees on social welfare chaired by Councilor Rodriguez, on women and family relations chaired by Councilor Desiree Ann Dahino and finance, budget and appropriations by Councilor Yan Lam Lim./Text by SC with CIO photos by Jomar Figuracion
