THE Bungkalalan River in Barangay Baikingon is a potential eco-adventure tourism destination that can draw visitors to Cagayan de Oro City, Councilor Joyleen ‘Girlie’ Balaba said in a special report to the 21st City Council.
During last Monday afternoon’s (Jan. 12) council session, Balaba cited the Bungkalalan River’s rich natural environment and suitability for various nature-based activities. These include kayaking, bamboo rafting, swimming, wildlife viewing, river trekking, and educational tours, she said.
'With proper planning and community involvement, the Bungkalalan River can become a model eco-adventure tourism destination, one that balances economic growth, environmental protection, and cultural appreciation,’ said Balaba, who chairs the council’s tourism committee.
Councilor George Christopher Goking, who chairs the council’s trade and commerce committee, supported Balaba’s proposal saying he is familiar with the site because he previously conducted similar studies of the river during his college years for his thesis. (MDS/CIO/Photos by: Jomar Figuracion/CIO)
