AS part of its efforts to transition towards a sustainable future, Cagayan de Oro City Hall held a Local Inception Workshop for the European Union-Philippines Green Economy Partnership (EU-PH GEP) at one of the city’s hotels last Jan. 21-22.
Cagayan de Oro is one of 20 local governments chosen nationwide to receive direct support from the European Union for circular economy (CE) solutions. The two-day event brought together the Local Circular Economy Action Team, private sector partners, and civil society organizations, to co-design a roadmap for reducing waste and improving resource efficiency across the city.
The workshop focus on identifying key area for CE interventions on plastic, organic and green tourism. The EU-PH GEP, a P3.67 billion (€60 million) is a grant from the EU, with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as lead implementing agency.
The program is part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, which fosters green transition and sustainable investments through trusted, inclusive partnerships.
The Green LGUs is a key component of the EU-PH GEP that supports cities and municipalities in advancing inclusive, locally led CE transitions.
