Klarex: ‘Travels outside CDO caused slight spike in COVID-19 cases’

The slight spike in Cagayan de Oro City’s COVID-19 cases can partly be attributed to more city residents contracting the virus during their travels outside the city, Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy said on Thursday.
In a radio interview, Mayor Klarex said he was updated on the city’s COVID-19 situation by City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Dilla, along with City Hall resident epidemiologist Dr. Teodulfo Joselito Retuya Jr., City Health Office (CHO) medical officer Dr. Ted Yu and CHO vaccine operations chief Dr. Ina Grace Chiu prior to last Monday’s press briefing.

‘I was also advised and I agreed to their suggestion that the city retain the use of isolation facilities in some of the city’s hotels for those that tested positive of COVID-19. They also told me that the spike is caused, among other factors, by increased travel of city residents outside the city and that they are monitoring the situation (and that it remains manageable),’ Mayor Klarex said in Visayan.

CHO data showed that as of 10 pm of July 20, the city logged 11 new cases and 15 recoveries, marking the 15th time that the city recorded double digit cases.
During last week’s celebration of the ‘Dinogan Festival’ in Barangay Carmen, Mayor Klarex reminded Kagay-anons to secure their complete vaccine shots, including the first booster shots for their protection from the virus. (Text by SC with photo by Isabelle Czarina Soriano)
