Written by
Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Joel Rudinas and DA-Northern Mindanao Director Carlene Collado met up with City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy Wednesday morning, October 26, 2022, to discuss the agency’s program that can help in the repopulation and enhancement of the local swine industry in Cagayan de Oro.

According to Regional Director Collado, the DA Regional Field Office 10 (DA RFO-10) will be implementing the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program in 2023.
This program aims to enhance the capacity of the local swine industry to produce a sufficient supply of hogs and pork.

Under the said P10-million program are package interventions to jumpstart the local swine industry and focus on increasing the swine inventory and breeder base. It also includes implementing biosecurity plans anchored to the BABay ASF Programs in support of the repopulation efforts.

The INSPIRE Community-Based Clustering Project is composed of four components, namely: Biosecured Swine Fattening Facility, piglets, bags of hog grower, and various drugs and biologics.

According to DA, once Cagayan de Oro takes part in the implementation of the program, the city will undergo the process of swine repopulation and biosecurity training for farm compartments.

Moreover, the city will also serve as a multiplier that will produce high-quality genetic materials to be distributed to the qualified FCA/recipients to contribute to the supply of hogs and pork in the locality. (JAS-CIO/Photos by Darlyn April-CMO)
