In a press briefing held Friday, April 4, Northern Mindanao Medical Center Director, Dr. Jose Chan shared that over the past two months, 61 patients admitted to the NMMC related to COVID-19 have already been discharged.

Chan elaborated that out of the 61 patients, 6 of these were confirmed positive, while the others were negative from the RITM swab test. As of now, there are 3 more patients on the road to recovery from the virus. These patients, according to Chan, are just waiting for the result of the repeat test, that if negative, will have to be discharged as well. 

 

The NMMC is the referral hospital for all Persons Under Investigation (PUI) in the region.

April 4, 2020- Dr. Lorraine Nery of the City Health Office gave an update on COVID-19 in Cagayan de Oro at a press conference held at the Mayor’s Office. As of Thursday, April 2, there are 39 Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs) and 30 are left to be monitored, while Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) remain at three (3).

Despite the decreasing number of cases with mild symptoms, Dr. Nery still advises to be vigilant, “Dili ta gaundang sa pagpangita kung naa pamay mga nabilin. Dili ta maging complacent, dili ta maging kumpyansa.

Meanwhile the city continues their proactive measures of identifying cases through a “house-to-house” survey done by barangay health workers and community development volunteers.  They are currently searching for people that show influenza-like illnesses, which will be further evaluated by medical experts. Citizens are encouraged to give a full disclosure of their health status and travel history once asked. The city health office also provided HEMS (Health Emergency Management) hotlines for people to contact.

Dr. Nery further provided updates on the Barangay Isolation Units (BIUs) in the city, saying that from the 64 established BIUs last Thursday, there are now 72 BIUs ready for use.

In her report she also addressed the negative feedback against the BIUs clarifying that the establishment of BIUs are done under the orders of department memoranda of several government agencies such as the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). While the Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) released memorandums as well with regards to using schools as isolation units. Dr. Nery further clarifies that this is in preparation in case the city reaches surge capacity.

Day 17: CDO Covid-19 Press Briefing

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno stressed that results from conducted swab tests must first come from the Department of Health in Manila before it is cascaded to the regional offices.

 

During his 17th press briefing, Moreno emphasized that the number of COVID-19 cases in the city do not solely come from the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC); others come from private hospitals as well. The mayor also assured that the city is carefully tracking these cases, he said, “I think we are on the right track no kaluoy sa Diyos although we need to validate verify and still dive didto sa field para makuha gyud ang information coming from the households.”

Look: Updates on Covid-19 in CDO

60 patients with symptoms related to COVID-19 have been brought in to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC)  according to NMMC director, Dr. Jose Chan.

From the latest updates, most of these patients went home after their swab tests conducted by the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM)resulted to negative.  Six (6) among the patients, however, tested positive, while three (3) patients are currently being treated.

One (1) has been transferred to the barangay isolation unit, one (1) has been transferred to another hospital, while one (1) patient recovered and one (1) patient died.   

11 other patients are still being monitored; seven (7) are still Persons Under Investigation (PUI) and four (4) have severe acute respiratory infections.

Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) continues to implement executive orders from the national headquarters according to COCPO Spokesperson Police Major Ivan Viñas in a press conference held at the Mayor’s Office, Wednesday, April 1. 

Viñas said that 120 Philippine National Police (PNP) Personnel were added from the regional special training unit and will be the ones to assess force multipliers in barangay roads with check points and essential goods to be transported. Meanwhile, all barangay check points in the national highway are to be removed as a directive of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Viñas, who is from the Law and Order Cluster, further said that social distancing continues to be enforced by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), and Highway Patrol Group. He also added that they have visited essential establishments for additional information, and continue to give leaflets to people in different barangays.

COCPO also continues to impose the city-wide curfew.

Barangays in CDO established isolation units

57 Barangays have established isolation units according to Dr Lorraine Nery of the City Health Office. According to Nery, this is to help Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) and/or Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs) showing mild symptoms in self quarantine. The barangay isolation units make sure that PUIs and PUMs with mild symptoms are well isolated especially if they are not able to self-quarantine at home due to reasons such as the lack of space.

Meanwhile, Nery also updates that cases of normal deliveries increased in birthing facilities. Nery also updates a daily house to house monitoring.

CDO continues contact tracing

Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya said that contact tracing continues to be conducted to all those considered as a Person Under Investigation (PUI) admitted in Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC). Retuya also said that they have found a way to trace the PUIs’ close contacts.

Meanwhile, PUIs who have finished the prescribed 14-day quarantine were discharged from the hospital, and have not shown signs and symptoms. Some remain following close contact with 2 PUIs.

Retuya calls for the 2 PUIs’ cooperation in tracing those they have had close contact with.

CdeO adunay 1097 PUMs

Muabot sa 1,097 na ang mga indibidwal nga gikonsiderang Persons Under Monitoring (PUM) karun sa siyudad sumala sa report nga gihatag sa ika-15 nga press conference ni Mayor Oscar Moreno.

 

Sumala ni Dr. Claire A. Paglinawan, kin inga numero natala gikan sa ilang sugod na pagmonitor. 1,089 ani kanila gi-monitor sa Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs). Adunay 153 niini nga mga PUMs ang kamulo pa nga ga home quarantine, samtang 940 na ang naka-human sa ilang home quarantine.

 

Ang PUM nagpasabot sa mga tao nga wala’y sintomas sa COVID-19 apan nakabyahe gawas sa nasod o lugar nga taas ang kaso sa virus o nakahinabi sa tao nga kumpirmado sa virus.
